Keynote Address

Mark Bookmyer

Mark Bookmyer is the Site Manager of the LyondellBasell La Porte Complex and Equistar Pipeline operations in North America.

Bookmyer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an Associate degree in Accounting from Lee Junior College. Beginning as a co-op engineer at the Channelview Complex, he has held technical and leadership roles with LyondellBasell, spanning across the globe at the Bayport, Channelview, La Porte, South Texas Polymers and Botlek manufacturing facilities, as well as supporting the Olefins Commercial Organization in the Houston corporate headquarter office.

Bookmyer has remained active in community leadership throughout his 33-year career in the chemical industry, contributing to various roles and other local support functions. Currently, he serves as a Director for the Association of Chemical Industry in Texas (ACIT) and represents LyondellBasell at the La Porte Citizens Advisory Council (LPCAC), La Porte Plant Managers Network (LPPMN) and the La Porte Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).


Competitions

ChemE Car

To find more information about the ChemE Car competition, click this link. The competition will take place on April 1, 2023, at 1:00 PM. The goal of this competition is to build a car that runs on a chemical reaction that has to travel a specific distance and competes against other cars.

ChemE Jeopardy

ChemE Jeopardy will take place on April 1, 2023, at 3:00 PM. Students will be tested on their chemical engineering knowledge and will compete against other students.

Student Technical Presentation Competition

The rules for the Technical Paper Competition can be found here. The competition will take place on April 1, 2023, at 1:30 PM. In this competition, students will present a technical paper related to the research they have conducted as an undergraduate about a chemical engineering-related topic. They will compete against other students and the papers will be judged by a panel.

Poster Competition

The competition guidelines, rules, and FAQ can be found here. The competition will take place on April 1, 2023, at 2:00 PM. Students will create a poster on a research project they have completed as an undergraduate on a topic related to chemical engineering. Students will compete against each other and the posters will be judged by a panel.

    corporate veteran who changed jobs 10 times over 30 years, workshop participants will use the AIChE Career DiscoveryTM approach to discover their current work talents as input to career planning and identify job opportunity gaps as possible career futures that are a fit with work talents and skill interests.
